Doctors at KATH call off strike

Striking doctors at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital have agreed to call off the strike, six days into it. This decision was taken in a meeting help today at 2pm at the auditorium of the EENT department. The strike was initiated  by a mob attack on doctors and nurses at the OBGYN ward in response to failure of staff to deliver the remains of a dead baby to the aggrieved family. Tensions mounted following alleged threats of murder from the aggrieved family, fuelled by a strongly worded letter from the family which made rounds  on the various social platforms. An emergency meeting between the Regional Security Council ( REGSEC) , the Zongo chiefs and family, the regional minister GMA Ashanti Division was convened on the 19thFfebruary 2014. All parties reached an amicable settlement on allowing the police to continue their investigations into the whereabouts of the missing baby, prosecution of the attackers and improving the security detail within the hospital. Mohammed Abdulai  Rahman, the man who issued the threat in the letter previously circulated retracted and apologised . Management and the KATH doctors association are still in further engagements to improve the safety of its staff. Doctors and most likely nurses are resuming work tomorrow 21st February 2014 at 8am
